This one I worked on from a picture I took of this man back in the Dominican Republic. He used (and probably til this day STILL does)to work the fields with a machete day and night, but on this particular occasion I was able to see him in his Sunday's best and enjoying himself a bottle of rum. lol
About Yxia Olivares
The youngest of 9 siblings, my brothers, my sisters and parents hail from the Dominican Republic and I was born and raised in New York City. I work mainly with pastels and acrylic paints and feature portraits, illustrations, still life and really, anything else that inspires me. I also enjoy working with graphite and oil on canvas. A self taught artist (as far as I can remember, since the age of 6), I studied fashion design at the High School of Fashion Industries (NYC) and graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where I got a brief taste of sculpture, fashion illustration and life drawing. Thank you so much Ken. This was actually my 1st ever large scale pastel portrait ever (and on smooth paper) so I hold great esteem over it, plus I know the person in it since I was 5yrs old. Wish I had access to the original gain so I could take a better, high resolution pic of it.
